ABOUT THE CHIEF GUEST

Sardar Milkha Singh(born in 1929), also known as The Flying Sikh , is a former Indian track and field sprinter, who was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army. He was the first Indian male athlete to win an individual athletics gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. He also won Gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He was awarded the Padma Shri(1959), India's fourth-highest civilian award, in recognition of his sporting achievements.

INVITEES

Approximately 1400 guests, will be presented by invitation only. The guests will include Ministers, MPs, MPPs, Mayors and carefully selected group mostly consisting of business owners, professionals and prominent Canadian Punjabis from different walks of life.

The awards nominations, winners and the award function will be advertised in several leading Punjabi and English South Asian Newspapers and Radio stations. The winners are extensively covered in the ethnic media like OMNI, ATN and various Radio Stations, ethnic newspapers and community newspapers.
